Climate: Alpine, Subalpine, Mediterranean and Continental
Slovenia has a very diverse climate. Four main regions can be distinguished. The Alpine region is characterised by alpine climate with over 2500 mm of precipitation, more than half as snow. The central part enjoys a temperate subalpine climate with quite hot summers (average hot month temperatures are around 18-20 °C), well sunshine records and an average of 120 rainy days (annual precipitation 1300-1600 mm). The coastal part of Slovenia has a mediterranean climate with warm to hot and dry summers, mild winters, abundant sunshine and the annual precipitation amounts to 1100-1300 mm. The eastern part of Slovenia is characterised by a moderate continental climate with average air temperatures from 8-10 °C and an annual temperature around 23 °C. In this part of Slovenia areas with less than 900 mm annual precipitation are situated.
Average temperatures in July are above 21 °C and in January 0 °C. In the summer it can be very hot at the coast and quite cold in the mountains, so we advise you to check the weather forecast before coming to Slovenia.
